Manage Overtime Settings

As an employer, if you require or permit your employees to work overtime; you are generally required to pay your employee premium pay for the overtime worked. Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) must receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek or at least on and one half times their regular rates of pay. Some states have laws for daily overtime and other exceptions.

To manage your overtime settings, navigate to Manager Home > Config > Employee > Timeclock & Payroll.

For the minimum federal standard, make sure you have the "40 Hours Exceed Per Week" box checked.

If your state requires overtime after 8 hours per day, check the 8 hours per day box.

In California, overtime is to be paid after the employee has worked 8 hours in a day and double time after 12 hours in a day. If an employee works 7 consecutive days in a work week in California, you will also pay double time after 8 hours.  If California wages apply to your location, make sure you have the "8 Hours Exceeded Per Day" and the "California Overtime" boxes checked.

You can also set up notification for employees who are approaching overtime hours. This can be done by having the system " Alert me of approaching overtime within X minutes per day, (which would be more beneficial for California or other daily overtime state employees) or you can have a notification sent when the employee is approaching overtime within X minutes per week. you also have the ability to have both options set.

This notification will appear on the Manager Home Alerts area if configured to do so there, and can be emailed to you.   Learn More about configuring your Manager Home alerts.

Be sure to save your changes when you are done.

Note:  As per federal regulations, Thr!ve uses a system of weighted overtime for hours worked in excess of 40 per week when your employee works 2 job types.   This takes into account the number of hours worked for each job type to get a proportional average wage that will be used to calculate the overtime premium.

If you prefer to allow your payroll system to calculate overtime, you can uncheck all overtime boxes and Thr!ve will calculate only straight time wages.
